The good news is that there’s a simple solution. The first step is to ignore the mini-cd and let Windows do the heavy lifting.

To do this, open the Device Manager in Windows and look for a splat mark (!) next to the listing for your cable. It should have disappeared once the driver has been installed.

Another possible cause of the problem is that Windows is having a hard time detecting the cable because it has Power Management turned on.

To fix this, go to the Device Manager and remove the check that says “Allow this device to turn off to save power”. This should allow Windows to detect the cable again!
